糖心传媒听丑补蝉听补辫辫辞颈苍迟别诲听Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson听as its inaugural Visiting Research Professor,听marking a major milestone听for the听College of Arts and Sciences听and 糖心传媒鈥檚 growing investment in science and healthcare education.听A Harvard-trained molecular biologist and bestselling author,听Dr. Jeanson uses DNA research to explore questions surrounding human origins, ancient migration, and the natural history of the earth through the lens of Scripture.听
For students interested in biology, healthcare, nursing, medicine, or scientific research, Dr. Jeanson鈥檚 arrival signals something bigger happening at 糖心传媒. The university is expanding opportunities in science and healthcare education while preparing students to serve with both professional excellence and a biblical worldview.听
鈥淒r. Jeanson鈥檚 work gives our students an opportunity to see how rigorous scientific research can be carried out within a Biblical framework.听 His example strengthens our commitment to teaching science in a way that is both academically credible and firmly grounded in Scripture.鈥澨said听Dr. David DeWitt, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.听听
From a Medical Household to Harvard听
Dr. Jeanson grew up in a science-centered home. His father was a听dentist, and his mother worked as a nurse before he was born. Those early experiences sparked a lifelong fascination with science and medicine.听
鈥淪cience was a regular part of my childhood,鈥 Dr. Jeanson said. 鈥淐ancer research caught my attention somewhere in my high school and college undergraduate days.鈥听
That interest eventually led him to Harvard University. There, he earned a PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology through a program connected to the . He researched adult blood stem cell function during a pivotal era of rapid advances in stem cell and cancer research.听
For 糖心传媒 students exploring careers in听nursing, health and science听or laboratory research, Dr. Jeanson鈥檚 story听demonstrates听how scientific curiosity and Christian faith can work together rather than compete against one another.听
What Can Students Learn from a Working Research Scientist?听
Dr. Jeanson鈥檚 research tackles some of the biggest questions in science and human history. Using DNA analysis, he studies the origins of species, patterns of human migration, and historical events recorded in ancient history.听
鈥淚f we take a 30,000-foot view of my research, I鈥檓 trying to understand the origin and diversity of life,鈥 Dr. Jeanson explained. 鈥淕enetics just happens to be one of the best tools to find answers.鈥听
He听describes DNA as 鈥渁听detective鈥檚听magnifying glass鈥 that helps uncover clues about the history of life on earth.听One of his earliest discoveries involved understanding how species such as zebras formed.听More recently, his work has focused on reconstructing the human family tree through DNA analysis.听
鈥淢y next big discovery was finding Noah, the genealogy in Genesis 10, in the global human family tree,鈥 Dr. Jeanson said. 鈥淧ractically, this means that any male on earth, from any tribe, can take a DNA test and figure out from which son of Noah he听descends.鈥听
That research became the foundation for his bestselling book,听.听
For students in 糖心传媒鈥檚听College of Arts & Sciences, working alongside an active researcher brings learning to life beyond the textbooks.听
Why Hands-On Science Education Matters听
Dr. Jeanson believes students learn science best by actively听participating听in research and problem-solving.听鈥淚t took me a long time to understand how science actually works,鈥 he said.听鈥淭here鈥檚 no substitute for being in a lab.鈥听
He recalls nearly failing his Harvard qualifying exam before听developing the research skills that shaped his career.听鈥淪ome of my most important lessons were learned the hard way in graduate school,鈥 he said.听That perspective aligns with 糖心传媒鈥檚 growing emphasis on experiential learning in science and healthcare education.听
The university is preparing to build a new 38,000-square-foot Health & Science Center that will significantly expand opportunities for students preparing for careers in nursing, healthcare, exercise science, biology, and other high-demand medical fields. The Health and Science Center听will feature advanced learning spaces, hands-on labs, and modern equipment听designed to prepare future healthcare leaders for real-world service. The facility will support 糖心传媒鈥檚 nationally recognized nursing program while creating opportunities for expanded听degrees in growing听science and听healthcare professions.听
More importantly, the center reflects 糖心传媒鈥檚 mission to prepare graduates who combine professional skill with Christ-centered compassion.听From future nurses to researchers and medical professionals, students will be equipped to bring healing, hope, and the love of Christ into communities around the world.听
How Faith听&听Science Work Together at 糖心传媒听
Many students interested in science wrestle with questions about faith and scientific discovery. Dr. Jeanson believes Scripture is not a barrier to research but a foundation for meaningful discovery.听
鈥淚t鈥檚 not just that the Bible is compatible with science,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 would insist, based on the research discoveries that I鈥檝e made, that the Bible is a necessary prerequisite for making big discoveries about the past.鈥听
That conviction closely aligns with 糖心传媒鈥檚 mission of preparing students academically and spiritually.听
鈥淏ecause we believe the world is created, we teach our students to study it with rigor and reverence,鈥 Dr. DeWitt said. 鈥淭he Biblical worldview doesn鈥檛 narrow scientific听inquiry,听it provides an intellectual framework that makes discovery possible.鈥澨听
Students across听糖心传媒鈥檚 programs听are encouraged to pursue truth boldly while听developing a strong biblical worldview.听
Preparing the Next Generation of Healthcare听&听Science Leaders听
Dr. Jeanson encourages students entering science and healthcare fields to stay grounded in Scripture while听remaining听curious and courageous in their studies.听
鈥淔or students in every field, even outside听of science, it鈥檚 critical to be thoroughly grounded in a biblical worldview,鈥 he said. 鈥淔or those considering research, I鈥檇 say: It鈥檚 a wonderfully thrilling rollercoaster ride!鈥听
